The excitation mode of DC motor refers to the problem of how to power the excitation windings, generate the excitation flux potential and establish the main magnetic field. According to different excitation modes, DC motors can be divided into the following types.
His wound
There is no connection between the field windings and the armature windings, and the DC motor powered by other DC power sources to the field windings is called the other excited DC motor, wiring is shown in Figure 1 (a). In FIG. 1, M represents a motor, and G represents a generator. Permanent magnet DC motor can also be regarded as separately excited DC motor.
shunt
The excitation winding of shunt DC motor is in parallel with the armature winding. As a shunt generator, the end voltage from the motor itself is the excitation winding power supply; As a shunt motor, the field winding and the armature share the same power supply, from the point of view of performance is the same as other excited DC motor.
series
The excitation windings of the series dc motor are connected in series with the armature windings and then connected to the DC power supply. The excitation current of this DC motor is the armature current.
compound
The compound dc motor has two excitation windings, one is shunt excitation and the other is series excitation. If the flux potential generated by the series winding is in the same direction as that generated by the shunt winding, it is called the product compound excitation. If the two magnetic flux potentials are in opposite directions, they are called differential compounding.
Dc motors with different excitation modes have different characteristics. In general, the main excitation mode of DC motor is shunt excitation, series excitation and compound excitation, and the main excitation mode of DC generator is other excitation, shunt excitation and compound excitation.
